Strategy Gatherings and Capacity Building for LSSNCA

Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area (LSSNCA) engaged Capacita to facilitate two in-person strategy gatherings for their leadership team, as well as to boost their development team capacity at a critical time for their organization. An organization with over one hundred years of experience supporting immigrants and refugees in the the DC area, their leadership team wanted to ensure they were engaging fully with their current supporters and new donors who had come forward in 2021 to support Afghan Allies who were fleeing violence in Afghanistan. During the crisis, LSSNCA provided resettlement services to the largest number of Afghan Allies on the East Coast – more than 4,500 total.

Strategy Gatherings

Capacita created session schedules and content, organized logistics, and facilitated the two sessions with LSSNCA’s leadership team. The first session honed in on one of the organization’s strategic objectives and the second was a comprehensive review and look forward for their strategic plan. Through engaging activities, guided conversation, breakout groups, and presentations, Capacita created a space for important decisions making surrounding expanding LSSNCA’s impact, examining the effectiveness of their current work, and preparing for the new year to come.

Capacity Building

Working closely with LSSNCA’s team, Capacita provided a comprehensive plan for strategy execution for their development team, including staffing, prioritized outreach and engagement with different categories of donors and stakeholders, and communications and stewardship. Capacita also helped create a corporate giving program plan, conducted asset valuations, created new outreach materials, and advised on the messaging and outreach to corporate prospects. Capacita also put together a comprehensive new case for support including strong messaging, detailing their call to action to any and all funders.
